Power Transmission Solutions,
Inc. (PTS) was formed in 2006 to develop and commercialize
new technologies related to overhead transmission lines.
Company’s goal is to provide cost-effective and state-of-the-art
solutions for the electrical transmission industry. Its
first product is the SLiM device which was developed earlier
by Material Integrity Solutions, Inc. In addition to the
SLiM device, PTS is working on developing technologies for
ice mitigation and low-cost monitoring of transmission lines.
Company’s management team consists of individuals
with key experience in the electric utility and business
and technology areas; including business development, corporate
law, electric power, mechanical and material engineering.
Dariush Shirmohammadi,
Ph.D., P.Eng., FIEEE - President and Board Member
Dariush is both the company president and also acts as a
general/executive advisor and a "fill-in" to technical
and managerial areas of PTS. Dariush’s 30-year tenure
in the electric power industry has primarily included technical
leadership positions in all areas of transmission and distribution
planning and operations as well as in the design and implementation
of electricity markets. Some of his most recent assignments
have been the Director of Regional Transmission Organization
with the California ISO, Chief Technologist with the North
American Energy Credit and Clearing Corporation (NECC),
Senior Vice President and Head of Americas Energy Markets
with the OM Group, Managing Consultant with PA Consulting
Group, Director of Emerging Energy Market Services with
Perot Systems Corporation, and the Director of Energy Systems
Automation Group with Pacific Gas & Electric Company.
Dariush has authored and co-authored numerous technical
papers and report and has lectured in academic, industrial
and regulatory forums around the world including Brazil,
Canada, China, Finland, France, Sweden, and Taiwan. He has
a Ph.D. in Electric Power Engineering from the University
of Toronto and is a registered professional engineer. Dariush
is also a fellow of IEEE.
Roger J. Gray, P.E. – Chief
Executive Officer and Board Member
Roger J. Gray is CEO of PTS and has over 25 years of experience
in the electric utility industry working for PG&E, LADWP,
SCE and Duke/LouisDreyfus. His last positions at PG&E
were CIO and General Manager of ETrans, PG&E planned
electric transmission spin-off company. His experience included
electric utility operations and planning and a variety of
other positions. Mr. Gray was a member of PG&E’s
management committee and was also responsible for business
development at PG&E. Roger has a B.S. in Electrical
Engineering from University of California, Berkeley.
Manuchehr Shirmohamadi, Ph.D., P.E.
– Chairman of the Board and CTO
Manuchehr is the founder of Material Integrity Solutions,
Inc. (www.MISolution.com), where the SLiM device was conceived
and developed, and is a cofounder of Power Transmission
Solutions, Inc. He has over 25 years of technical experience
in various industries and is an expert in the fields of
engineering design & analysis, materials, and product
development. He has been the principal investigator for
a number of R&D projects for governments and private
industries. Manuchehr has B.S. and M.S. in Civil/Structural
engineering and holds Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from
the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a lecturer
of engineering courses and holds a number of patents including
the SLiM Technology, ice-mitigation of transmission lines
and a number of other areas.
Adam Bell, Ph.D., J.D. – Intellectual
Property Legal Council and Board Member
Adam W. Bell is a partner in the law firm or Bell &
Associates, a San Francisco patent law firm serving biotech
and high-technology companies. Dr. Bell holds a doctorate
(D.Phil.) in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford.
He received his law degree from The University of California,
Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. He practiced
patent law with the Oregon firm of Klarquist Sparkman et
al., and subsequently served as patent counsel at Incyte
Genomics and Cell Genesys, then served as chief patent counsel
at Durect Corporation. He has served as a biotech hedge-fund
advisor and has sat on the boards of several companies and
not-for-profit institutions. Dr. Bell is admitted to practice
law in California and is registered to practice before the
United States Patent and Trademark Office.
